JON PICKARDCREATIVE MUSICIAN / COMPOSER / PERFORMER - UNIQUE 'HARP-GUITARS'
Musician, composer, storyteller, performer, producer, film maker, instrument designer. I have been a lifelong musician, and developed the other skills along the way to help convey the music. I perform concerts and also background music for events. With a background of playing classical, jazz, rock, pop, Flamenco & latin, on piano, keyboards, guitars.
These days I specialise in playing a group of very rare instruments called ‘Harp-Guitars’.
Harp-Guitars are essentially guitars with extra banks of unfretted (harp-like) strings. I have designed 3 different versions so far, each of which has not less than 23 strings. They create a whole new experience for the listener and also for the musician.
Apart from the huge sound and epic musical possibilities they awake, they make the listener realise that ‘rules’ and conventions can be broken, creativity can be unleashed and unexpected new experiences are only ever a breath away. This frees up something inside the listener and provides a true inspiration they will never forget.
I also make imaginative music videos to embellish my compositions. Some of these have been broadcast in over 45 countries on the CMusic cable TV channel. Special versions of some of the videos can be played on screen behind me when I perform live, to add an extra dimension.
I often give talks on the long history (3-4 centuries) of the harp-guitar, or work this content into my performances in between pieces. I tell evocative stories about the inspiration for each piece, and the stories are as popular as the actual music.
I also teach guitar and piano to children and adults.
