An online video conference and discussions around pride in place, such as people’s satisfaction with their town centre and engagement in local culture and community, wellbeing and placemaking and what that means to you and Somerset such as activities that enhance physical, cultural and social ties and access to amenities, such as community infrastructure and local green space, and community-led projects. Plus, a chance to add your opinions to help mould a cultural strategy for Somerset.
Introduction
Creative Placemaking is an evolving field of practice that intentionally leverages the power of the arts, culture and creativity to serve a community’s interest while driving a broader agenda for change, growth and transformation in a way that also builds character and quality of place.
Creative Placemaking can be used by communities to engage residents locally, enhance public space and contribute to healthy sustainable communities. It is a strategy to improve community well-being and prosperity while also fostering conditions for towns and villages to define, draw attention to and distinguish themselves on a county and national scale.
The success of creative placemaking is dependent upon collaborations between various civic stakeholders such as governments, private investment, not-for-profit organisations, artists and citizen/community groups.
So, what does placemaking mean to you in your part of Somerset? What connections can you make to bring about placemaking and what resources or support is required to help you to develop placemaking in your area?
This event starts with a short presentation on placemaking with then allow participants to share good practice, ideas and needs and wants in an informal way, and allow SABCA to better present the needs of local communities to other agencies and local government.

For any arts and culture group or practitioner, or community officers who wish to discuss and learn about placemaking in Somerset and share their knowledge of their area.
